The Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, is currently in Lomé, Togo, where she is taking part in a high-level regional gender forum aimed at strengthening gender-responsive parliamentary systems across West Africa.

The forum, which brought together gender advocates, development partners, parliamentary representatives, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), commenced with an official opening ceremony followed by a plenary session on day one. Discussions at the forum are centered on improving strategic direction and operational planning within legislative institutions to ensure that gender considerations are effectively mainstreamed into parliamentary processes and decision-making.

Participants are engaging in knowledge-sharing sessions, policy dialogues, and capacity-building discussions designed to equip lawmakers and stakeholders with practical tools to promote gender equity, inclusiveness, and accountability within governance structures. The initiative is also expected to enhance collaboration among countries in the region in addressing persistent gender gaps in political representation and leadership.

Speaking from Lomé, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the forum, describing it as a crucial platform for strengthening advocacy on gender equality and women’s empowerment. She emphasized the importance of such regional engagements in shaping policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of women and marginalized groups. She further noted that she was honored to represent the Parliament of Ghana at the high-level gathering.

The forum is expected to produce actionable recommendations and frameworks that will guide participating countries in building more inclusive and gender-sensitive parliamentary institutions, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and democratic governance in the region.
