The United Nations General Assembly has on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 passed a resolution on reparatory justice.
The reparatory justice resolution spearheaded by Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama has declared that the transatlantic slave trade was a grave crime against humanity.
During a vote, 123 member states voted in favour, 3 member states voted against it and 53 member states abstained from voting.
The resolution described transatlantic slave trade as a horrific tragedy that caused centuries of violence, suffering and economic exploitation on millions of Africans and people of African descent.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has commended the resolution.
