New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, has downplayed the relevance of opinion polls ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential contest, insisting that the true test of popularity will be determined at the ballot box on January 31.
Mr. Agyepong said he remains encouraged by the growing support he is receiving from party faithful who believe in his political philosophy, despite what he described as attempts to shape public perception through orchestrated polls.
“I’m a very modest person and of course I’ve got a lot of good people who believe in my political philosophy who are supporting and helping. Especially when you have an arena where polls are being orchestrated in a certain way to make it seem as if it’s only two people who have a chance.”
The former General Secretary of the NPP stressed that while polls may serve a purpose, they should not be mistaken for the final verdict of the electorate.
Describing himself as an “eternal optimist,” Mr. Agyepong noted that the ultimate decision lies with party delegates on voting day.
“I am an eternal optimist and I always believe that the real poll will be on the 31st of January and at the end of the day I mean polls are put together to give governments and politicians an idea of the impact of their policies and the like.”
The NPP is preparing to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the next general election, with several high-profile contenders vying for the position. As the contest intensifies, aspirants continue to engage delegates and articulate their visions for the future of the party and the country.
