Ghana has announced withdrawal of hosting the 2026 African Swimming Championships scheduled to take place in Accra from May 5 to 10, 2026.
According to Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), the withdrawal has become necessary due to governance challenges and lack of institutional support.
.GSA said the expectations to host the 2026 Swimming Championships secured in Cairo have fallen short because of internal disputes and external pressures.
GSA in a statement indicated that the ongoing electoral disagreements within the Federation affected preparations for the competition.
The Swimming Association has also accused the National Sports Authority of trying to impose guidelines that go against the Association’s constitution.
