Akpene Tetteh, a 37‑year‑old Ghanaian doctoral student at Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States of America (USA), was fatally shot dead in broad daylight.

Reports say the tragic incident occurred in early February.

CDR Africa reported that Police arrested a teenager at the scene.

The case has now headed to Superior Court as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.

The late Akpene Tetteh was pursuing her PhD in the Department of Health Policy and was on track to complete her degree this summer in just three years, an achievement the University called unprecedented.

The school authorities said they were shocked and saddened by the incident.

They described her as an exceptional person.
At the time of her passing, she was working on her dissertation, which focused on improving health outcomes for adults with diabetes in the United States.
