The Techiman Krontre Royal Family Spokesperson, Nana Kwadwo Yeboah, has strongly condemned the growing trend of individuals using social media platforms to direct offensive and unprintable comments at traditional leaders, particularly the Asantehene.

According to him, no chief in Techiman has made, or authorized anyone to make, disparaging remarks against the Asantehene, stressing that such actions do not reflect the position of the Techiman Traditional Council.

He clarified that individuals engaged in such conduct are acting on their own accord and should not be linked to the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV, or the Traditional Council.

“The trend on social media is very worrying. We have people recording themselves and using unpleasant words against some chiefs in the country. I want to put it on record that no chief in Techiman has made, or sent anyone to make, any unpleasant comments about the Asantehene.

“What we are seeing on social media, where some individuals are directing insults at the Asantehene, has nothing to do with the Paramount Chief of Techiman, Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV, or the Techiman Traditional Council. Those individuals are acting on their own accord.” He said.

Nana Kwadwo Yeboah disclosed that Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV holds the chieftaincy institution in high esteem and would not engage in any act that brings the revered institution into disrepute.

He therefore cautioned residents, particularly the youth, to desist from engaging in such behavior and to uphold the dignity and respect associated with traditional leadership.

The Techiman Krontre Royal Family Spokesperson further noted that the kind of language being used by some individuals on social media is unacceptable and not condoned by the Techiman Traditional Council.

He warned that while people are entitled to respect their own traditional authorities, disrespecting the leaders of others could provoke retaliation and undermine the peace and unity among traditional areas.

“Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV has great respect for the chieftaincy institution and will not engage in any act that brings the institution into disrepute. I therefore use this medium to advise individuals in Techiman who are involved in such practices to desist and show respect for the chieftaincy institution.

“Some of the language used on social media is unprintable and is not condoned by the Techiman Traditional Council. While everyone has the right to respect their own traditional leaders, disrespecting the leaders of others creates room for retaliation, which will not be tolerated in Techiman.” He told our reporter.

Nana Kwadwo Yeboah urged the youth to be mindful of their actions on social media, adding that the image and reputation of Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV and the Techiman Traditional Council must not be tarnished by irresponsible conduct.

“Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw IV and his Council are well-learned, and the youth should be careful not to tarnish their image by engaging in the use of offensive comments toward the Asantehene or any other chief in the country.” He stated.
