The Upper East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a robbery incident along the Zebilla–Widnaba road in the Bawku Division, which resulted in the death of a Police officer on duty while others sustained injury.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, 8th February 2026, when the two police officers were travelling to Zebilla.
The robbers opened fire on the officers who were trying to foil the robbery leading to the death of the officer.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that on Sunday, 8th February 2026, two Police officers travelling towards Zebilla encountered the robbery in progress. The robbers opened fire on the officers, hitting one of them in the process.” Police said in a statement.
The police said the officer was immediately rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead and the body was since deposited at the hospital mortuary waiting for autopsy.
“A police team that was responding to the incident following a distress call, sent the officer to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, where sadly, he was pronounced dead. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.” They added.
Ghana Police Service has vowed to work assiduously to arrest the suspects to face the law.
“A special operation is underway to identify and arrest all persons involved to face the full rigours of the law.” The police assured.
