The government has taken a bold decision to end professional workers, especially doctors who refuse to accept posting to rural areas.
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Minta Akando has cautioned that Doctors who refuse to accept posting to rural areas will be removed from government payroll by the end of February, 2026.
Over the years, communities in the rural areas suffer from accessing quality healthcare delivery due to doctors refusal to accept posting to rural areas.
But the Sector Minister said the menace must come to an end.
Speaking at the University of Ghana College of Health Science at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Hon. Akando stated that addressing the gaps in underserved communities is essential.
The Member of Parliament urged lecturers and medical trainers to motivate newly qualified doctors to accept posting to rural communities to balance the Health care delivery.
Hon. Minta Akando lamented over how the government gets funds from those farming communities to finance the doctors education but they refused to serve them after completion.
“I agree that working in the rural areas is difficult due to lack of basic amenities but your education is subsidised. And the government gets funds from the cocoa-producing farmers from these areas to finance your education.,” The Minister stated.
Adding that “If you say those places are villages so you don’t want to go there then I beg to differ.”
“We are going to do validation by the end of February. If you have not reposted, your name will be removed from the government payroll because we want to ensure equitable healthcare delivery across the country.” He warned.
