The Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, together with the Techiman North District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has handed over 1,000 pieces of school furniture to the Techiman North Education Directorate to help reduce the furniture deficit in the district.
The presentation ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Techiman North District Assembly in the Bono East Region, brought together officials from the Education Directorate, headteachers, assembly members, and other stakeholders in the education sector.
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the Directorate, the Techiman North District Education Director, Ahmed Nasir Ibrahim, expressed excitement over the intervention and described it as timely.
“Today is a very good day for the Techiman North Education Directorate. We have been challenged with inadequate chairs and desks to support teaching and learning activities for our learners, but with the provision of these chairs and desks, this challenge will be reduced.” He stated.
He disclosed that about 20 schools are expected to benefit from the distribution exercise with each school receiving at least 50 pieces.
“About 20 schools will benefit from the distribution of this school furniture, with each school receiving at least 50 pieces. We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and our DCE, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson.” He said.
In an interview with our reporter, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare explained that the donation fulfils a key campaign promise she made to the people of Techiman North. She further assured constituents that more support is on the way.
“The distribution of this furniture is part of a campaign promise I made to the people of Techiman North. During the campaign season, I realized that the furniture deficit was a major challenge facing the Techiman North Education Directorate, and I promised to help eradicate it when the NDC came to power. That is what we are witnessing here today.
“We are handing over 1,000 chairs and desks to the Education Directorate, and I want to assure the people of Techiman North that plans are far advanced to procure additional chairs and tables for learners in the district”. She said.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare also appealed to beneficiary schools to prioritize maintenance.
“My humble appeal to the beneficiary schools and learners is to take very good care of the furniture so that it can serve them for a long time.” She urged.
On behalf of the headteachers of the beneficiary schools, the Headteacher of Jama Timponim D/A School, Mark Yaw Adusi, expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament, the District Chief Executive, and the Assembly for the gesture.
“On behalf of the headteachers of the beneficiary schools, I would like to express our profound gratitude to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, and the entire Assembly. These chairs and desks will go a long way in improving teaching and learning activities in the district.” He told our reporter.
The donation is expected to significantly improve classroom conditions, enhance learner concentration, and support effective teaching and learning in public basic schools across the Techiman North District
