Ghanaian citizen, Frederick Kumi also known as Abu Trica who was arrested has sued the the Minister for Interior, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the FBI, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Attorney-General and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over what he described as unlawful detention.

He claimed his detention was marked by physical violence, starving and systematic looting of his personal property.

The businessman is demanding GH₵10 million in compensation.

“The prolonged detention of the applicant by officers of 2nd, 4th and 5th Respondent from the morning until late evening during his arrest on 11th December 2025 while continuously restrained in handcuffed, deprived of food, water, rest and basic human necessities, and subject to physical and Psychological distress constitutes torture and cruel.” lawyers of Abu Trica claim.

“Inhuman and degrading treatment contrary to Article 15 of the 1992 Constitution and is therefore unlawful and unconstitutional” The suit added.

Abu Trica lawyers stated that “the questioning and interrogation of the Applicant at the time of his arrest by officers of the 2nd Respondents, while he was restrained in handcuffed, surrounded by armed officers, and subjected to threats and intimidation, and in denial of request for access to his Counsels of his choice, violated his constitutional right to legal representation, dignity, and a fair trial under Article 15 and 19 of the 1992 constitution and is unlawful and unconstitutional. ”

The motion continued that “The decision and conduct of officers of the 2nd Respondent in permitting agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America – the 3rd Respondent herein – as foreign law enforcement personnel to interrogate the Applicant without access to Counsel, was unlawful and in violation of Articles 14 and 19 of the 1992 Constitution”
