The Bono East Regional Command of the Narcotics Control Commission has conducted a swoop at three ghettos in Donkro Nkwanta in the Nkoranza South District, leading to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of various narcotic substances and items.
The operation, which targeted known drug hotspots within the community, resulted in the arrest of Ismeal Tahiru, 20; Edward Adai, 20; Opoku Kwame, 20; Benjamin Atanga, 22; Isaac Antwi, 22; and Emmanuel Brobbey, 23.
A number of items were confiscated during the exercise, including four blisters of Tramadol (250mg), six boxes of Gold Seal, one lighter, about 60 wraps of suspected cannabis, one motorcycle, two kitchen knives, two wrapped parcels of cannabis, one and a half compressed parcels, five scissors, seven quantities of local cannabis, four rolling papers, and one hammer.

Speaking after the operation, the Bono East Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, indicated that the swoop forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on narcotics activities and also serves as a warning to individuals who deal in illicit substances in the Bono East Region.
“We conducted a swoop today, and as a result, we destroyed three ghettos. This action is to send a clear warning that we remain active in the fight against narcotics in the region.”
She noted that despite intensified public education, some individuals continue to engage in the use and trade of illicit drugs.

Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor stressed that it will not relent in its efforts to protect the youth from the dangers of drug abuse.
“We have undertaken numerous demand-reduction and sensitization activities in schools, churches, markets, and other public spaces to discourage the use of illicit drugs. However, some individuals still indulge in these activities.”
“We will not sit idle and watch our youth be destroyed by drugs. Those involved in the trade of such substances should know that we will come after them. The youth are the future of this country, and we must protect them at all costs.”

The Bono East Regional Commander of the Narcotics Control Commission explained that communities in the Bono East Region and Ghana at large will be safer if narcotics are effectively controlled, a mission the Commission is committed to achieving both in the region and across the country.
“Our communities will be safer if narcotics are properly controlled and if the youth abstain from their use. We are committed to ensuring this is achieved in Bono East and Ghana at large.”
According to the Bono East Regional Operations Officer of the Narcotics Control Commission, ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye, intelligence gathered indicated that narcotics-related activities were rampant in Donkro Nkwanta, prompting the targeted operation.

“During the operation, we successfully raided three ghettos located in the bush. Through the determination of our team, we were able to carry out the exercise effectively and arrested some suspects in the process..
He further disclosed that additional hotspots have been identified across the region and will soon be targeted in subsequent operations.
”We have also identified other hotspots within the region, and we will soon carry out similar operations there, as we remain determined to curb narcotics activities and the use of illicit substances.””
