A daring police operation in Ejura has resulted in the death of a suspected highway robber, Ibrahim Iddrisu, also known as “Bule”, wanted for multiple robberies along the Mampong-Ejura Highway. The 43-year-old suspect was fatally shot during a confrontation with police on March 30, 2026, after allegedly attacking an officer with a cutlass and attempting to seize a service weapon.

According to reports, Iddrisu sustained gunshot wounds to his left leg and arm and was rushed to Mampong Government Hospital, later referred to Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The operation, conducted by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command in collaboration with the NOD/Surveillance Unit HQ in Accra, also led to the arrest of seven additional suspects linked to a March 26 robbery at Aframso Bridge.

The suspects, identified as Amidu Sajo (42), Ibrahim Sule (36), Karim Hadu (40), Malik Jibrilla (38), Yusifa Asakoko (23), Umaru Issifu (20), and Damani Yamba (36), were allegedly involved in the robbery of passengers on a minibus travelling from Kumasi to Atebubu, making off with cash and mobile phones.

Police recovered multiple exhibits during the raid, including two live AK-47 rounds, three cutlasses, GHC 15,717 in cash, a talisman, an ID card, eight mobile phones, and a side bag. Assistant Commissioner of Police Felix Apedo, the regional commander, stated that the operation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects and recover additional weapons.

“The operation is ongoing to apprehend other suspects and recover additional weapons,” Apedo said, urging the public to continue cooperating with the police in efforts to combat highway robbery and protect road users.

The police command’s swift action has been welcomed by the community, with many calling for increased efforts to curb the rising menace of highway robbery in the region.
