Ghanaian reggae musical artist,  Kojo Antwi also known as Mr. Music Man has revealed how reggae artists in Ghana are facing a serious discrimination in their own country.

According to him, Ghanaians don’t want to accept Reggae music from a Ghanaian.

Speaking in an interview with Bola Ray, the legendary Ghanaian highlife musician stated that Ghanaians have all the logistics to do reggae music but their own don’t want to accept it.

“Ghanaians don’t want to accept Reggae music from Ghanaian because Alpha Blondy was brought to Ghana. He has to rehearse with the band to come to Ghana because he has the knowledge that we have so and so and all the other things here in Ghana.” He stated.

“Alpha Blondy formed a reggae group and I was part of the radical group. We have locks and we had a gentleman in our midst with long dreadlocks and the attitude of a Rasta was not acceptable like it is today. Now you find Young boys with dreadlocks and some of them are not looking too good.” He stressed.

Kojo Antwi also lamented how the first TV station in their days refused to play his videos because of his dreadlocks.

He said their time was very difficult for a musician to come out especially if you were having dreadlocks.

“We came out with reggae around the same time as Capital Letters, Mighty Diamond and all those big artists.” He stated.

“We have to fight, even some videos I made were not played on some TV stations because of my dreadlocks. But like DR. Kwame Nkrumah said “forward ever and backward never” Kojo Antwi lamented.
