The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, together with the Member of Parliament for Techiman North Constituency, Adom Kwabena Johnson, has commissioned a newly constructed 12-unit classroom block at St. Francis Senior High School in Buoyem in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by some Techiman North NDC Constituency Executives, Heads of Departments from the Techiman North District Assembly, traditional authorities, clergy, and members of the community.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief of Bouyem, Nana Ameyaw Kwarteng Amaniapong, recounted the history of the institution and the challenges it has faced over the years.

“The school was originally built by the community and has since faced developmental challenges. However, we are grateful to the NDC government because since its establishment, most of the infrastructural developments in the school have been undertaken by the NDC.” He stated.

He explained that the newly commissioned classroom block had a long and difficult journey before its completion.

“The newly commissioned 12-unit classroom block was initiated by the late Hon. I.K. Adjei-Mensah and later continued by Hon. Alex Kyeremeah. When the NPP government assumed office, they initially continued the project but later abandoned it. Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, on the ticket of the NDC, has now successfully completed it.” He said.

According to him, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, has further assured the school community of her commitment to complete other stalled projects.

“She has also promised to continue with other uncompleted projects in the school, and we strongly believe she will deliver on her promise to uplift the image of the school.” He said.

Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in an interview with the media expressed gratitude to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for the completion of what she described as a legacy project.

She indicated that the completion of the facility would bring significant relief to both the school and the wider community.

“This 12-unit classroom block, initiated by my late father, Hon. I.K. Adjei-Mensah, and continued by Hon. Alex Kyeremeah, was abandoned in 2016. However, by the grace of God and through the vision of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, the project has now been successfully completed and commissioned

“The completion of this project will bring relief not only to teachers and learners but also to the entire Buoyem community. H.E. John Dramani Mahama is committed to improving infrastructure in the country, particularly in the education sector. This is a very good school, and I strongly believe that with improved infrastructure, enrollment will increase significantly.” She disclosed.

The Rector and head teacher of the school, Rev. Fr.  Martin Odoru Gilson, on behalf of the school express his profound gratitude to the Chief of Buoyem, Nana Ameyaw Kwarteng Amaniampong, for his role in supporting the school and the government of Ghana for completion of the 12-unit classroom block.

“We are very grateful to the Chief of Buoyem, Nana Ameyaw Kwarteng Amaniampong. Although the school belongs to the community, it was later handed over to the Catholic Diocese of Techiman. We have been advocating for the completion of this 12-unit classroom block since 2011, and seeing it commissioned brings us great relief.” stated.

He  assured stakeholders of their commitment to maintaining the facility and improving academic standards.

“We promise to take good care of the facility and prioritize quality teaching and learning to produce responsible graduates for the community and Techiman at large.” the head teacher said.

The contractor who completed the project, Mr. Kwasi Gyan Jomo, also shared insights into the process, revealing that the project had passed through multiple hands.

“This is an old project that has had two different contractors working on it. I am the third contractor to have worked on it. I was contacted by Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson six months ago to take over the project, and by the grace of God, it has now been completed and commissioned.” He explained.

He commended the leadership of the school and the cooperation from traditional authorities.

“Since assuming office as head teacher, I have not encountered any major challenges. The Buoyem Traditional Council has given me the necessary support and cooperation to work peacefully,” the head teacher added.

The completion and commissioning of the 12-unit classroom block is expected to ease congestion, enhance effective teaching and learning, and contribute to increased enrollment at St. Francis Senior High School.
