The Chief Executive Officer of Kyiri Akyingye Herbal Clinic, Mr. Bismark Adjei, popularly known as Nana Adjei, has urged residents of Techiman to uphold discipline and promote constructive criticism during the ongoing Appor Festival.

He made this call while speaking on the essence of the festival, explaining that Appor is a platform for meaningful engagement and not a tool for insults or false accusations.

Mr. Adjei explained that the festival presents a unique opportunity for citizens to freely express their displeasure about issues affecting society without fear or intimidation. He noted that such engagements help to draw the attention of leaders to actions and inactions that do not sit well with the people, thereby encouraging them to make necessary adjustments.

He added that the same process enables leaders to identify policies and actions that are appreciated by the people, giving them the opportunity to strengthen such areas for the overall development of Techiman.

“The Appor Festival presents us with a unique opportunity to voice our displeasure about issues in our society without fear or intimidation.

“In doing so, it also makes our leaders aware of their actions and inactions that do not sit well with the people of Techiman, encouraging them to refrain from such conduct. At the same time, it helps them understand what the people appreciate about their leadership, enabling them to strengthen those areas for the betterment of Techiman.” He told our reporter.

The Kyiri Akyingye Herbal Clinic C. E. O, however, cautioned that insults, as well as deliberate and unprovoked attacks, are not part of the values of the Appor Festival. He stressed that the freedom to criticize leaders should not be abused through false accusations or offensive conduct.

“However, insults, as well as deliberate and unprovoked attacks, are not part of the Appor Festival. The fact that the festival provides us with an opportunity to criticize our leaders does not mean we can insult or falsely accuse them.” He stated.

He further noted that the festival is being celebrated after a six-year break, making it important for residents to protect its integrity by avoiding actions that could undermine its purpose

“We have not celebrated this festival for six years, and we must not engage in any activity that will undermine its essence as we celebrate it this year.” He said.

The Appor Festival, celebrated annually in Techiman, is regarded as a form of traditional democracy that allows citizens to openly assess leadership and contribute to community development.
