Ghana’s Parliament has approved an agreement to allow a large-scale mining of Lithium and other minerals at Mankessim (42.63km) in the Mfantsiman Municipality of the Central Region.
The approval was made on Thursday, March 19, 2026 during sitting.
The agreement that paved the way for mining of Lithium gives Barari DV Ghana Limited 15 years of mining lease.
Experts have projected Ghana as the main dealer of Lithium in the global market should the new deal become successful.
According to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Bush, the agreement will benefit Ghanaians and the mining community.
He said the mining project will among other things create jobs and enhance socio-economic development.
The Minister added that they took their time to check if the mining of Lithium will not bring any destruction that would affect the country in the future.
The Minister indicated that the mining company (Barari DV Ghana Limited) will do a feasibility study to prevent any problem.
“This is the time for the mining of Lithium and it is our hope that the project will create opportunities for the people of Ghana and the mining community” Hon. Kofi Bush stated.
He believes communities such as Ewoyaa and others who have waited for the many years will benefit from the agreement.
Key factors in the agreement are allocation of development funds to support the mining communities, some percentage to other mining firms in Ghana.
These, according to the agreement, will help both the country and the company.
Meanwhile, the minority in Parliament has opposed the agreement saying it is problematic.
