Black Stars team doctor, Dr. Prince Pambo has confirmed that Mohammed Salisu will be ruled out of the 2026 FIFA WORLD CUP due to a serious knee injury.
The Black Stars defender who plays as centre-back for AS Monaco is expected to rest for at least nine months after his medical assessment in France.
Dr. Pambo disclosed that “Mohammed Salisu will miss the global tournament. He needs nine months of medical attention to recover fully. Salisu has suffered a serious knee injury”
According to reports, the Black Stars defender sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a French Ligue 1 match between AS Monaco and Olympique Lyonnais in January 2026.
He has since undergone successful surgery but Dr. Prince Pambo indicated that he needs more time to fully recover.
Mohammed Salisu has been very committed and has been considered as a key figure in Ghana’s defence for some years now.
Black Stars losing Salisu is a biggest challenge for the head coach Otto Addo as the global tournament is getting near.
Ghana will play against Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.
Before the World Cup, Ghana will play international friendly matches against Australia and Germany to prepare themselves for the global tournament.

Otto Addo, Black Stars head coach is expected to name his final squad on June 1.
It is not clear who will replace Mohammed Salisu for the FIFA World Cup.
