The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana has expressed their disappointment over what they describe as a sudden disappearance of their long-standing unpaid arrears from their payroll voucher.
They said “A number of their affected members consistently had their salary arrears validated on the Government payroll system every month, even though actual payments were not made to them. However, upon the most recent validation for February 2026, these accumulated arrears have suddenly and completely disappeared from our payroll voucher.”
“The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana wishes to draw the urgent attention of the Ghanaian public to a deeply troubling development concerning our long standing unpaid salary arrears.” They said in a statement.
“When the alarming issue was brought to the attention of the public, the Controller and Accountants General’s Department moved swiftly to deny our claims. The denial is shocking and unacceptable. Our Payroll Validators and Human Resources Officers across various health facilities have independently confirmed that the arrears have indeed been cleared from the Payment Vouchers of affected nurses and midwives without any corresponding payment made to them.” The aggrieved Nurses and Midwives stated.
“Our questions are who authorised the removal of our legitimately earned arrears and on what legal and administrative basis were these arrears cleared” They quizzed.
“We find this development not only unjust but deeply dishonest, and it reinforces our long-held concerns about the lack of transparency in the handling of our salaries. Nurses and Midwives who have worked tirelessly for the country can not and will not accept a situation where their hand earned income is quietly wiped away from the official records.”
“We call on the government of Ghana to act swiftly to investigate this anomaly, restore and pay all unlawful removed arrears without delay to avoid any action from us.”
