576 suspects arrested in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa for involving in various offences including drug-related crimes, robbery, burglary and others.
The suspects were arrested through “Operation Shanela” conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Northern Cape.
According to the Police, a total of 12 623 persons and 5 006 vehicles were stopped and searched during the operation.
Adding that compliance inspections led to the closure of 16 unlicensed liquor outlets.
“#sapsNC The continued commitment of #SAPS in the Northern Cape was demonstrated through #OperationShanela2 conducted across all five districts, leading to the arrest of 576 suspects between 9 and 15/02.” SAPS said.
“The intelligence-driven operation focused on crime prevention and stabilising hotspots. A total of 12 623 persons and 5 006 vehicles were stopped and searched, while compliance inspections led to the closure of 16 unlicensed liquor outlets.”
“Suspects were arrested for offences including drug-related crimes, robbery, murder, rape, assault GBH, burglary, and drunk driving. Drugs, alcohol, counterfeit goods, dangerous weapons, and suspected proceeds of crime were seized.”
In a separate operation, the Provincial #AntiGangUnit in Bloemfontein dealt a massive blow to the local drug trade during operations over the past 48 hours, arresting four suspects and removing drugs worth over R715,000 from the streets of Heidedal.
On 14/02, search warrants led to the arrest of a 40-year-old male found with cocaine valued at R75,000 and cash, and a 27-year-old male found with dagga worth R60,000 and cash.
On 15/02, a 38-year-old suspect was arrested after attempting to flee, with drugs found in a school bag. A follow-up search led to the arrest of a 36-year-old male and the seizure of khat, crystal meth and mandrax valued at R580,000, as well as cash.
All four suspects are detained at Heidedal #SAPS and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
