The Right to Information Commission has imposed administrative penalties on four (4) public institutions for failure to comply with their statutory obligations under the Act.

The affected institutions have been fined amounting to Two Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC220, 000).

The four institutions affected were the Ghana Education Service (GES), National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and WBM Zion Senior High School.

“The Right to Information Commission (“the Commission”), in the exercise of its statutory mandate under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), has determined a number of cases involving non-compliance with the Act and has taken enforcement action to uphold the law.” RTI Commission said in a statement.

” Following investigations, hearings, and determinations made in accordance with Act 988, the Commission has imposed administrative penalties amounting to Two Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC220, 000) on four (4) public institutions for failure to comply with their statutory obligations under the Act.” The statement read.

Sanctioned Institutions and Administrative Penalties

*Ghana Education Service (GES)

Frederick Asiamah (corruption watch) v. Ghana Education Service – GHC10,000

*WBM Zion Senior High School

Daniel Yeboah v. EBM Zion Senior High School – GHC 10,000

*National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA)

Innovative Teachers v. National Pension Regulatory Authority – GHC100,000

*Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO)

Gilbert Kekeli v. Economic and Organised Crime Office – GHC 100,000

“These administrative penalties were imposed pursuant to the Commission’s enforcement power under section 71(2)(f) of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), which authorises the Commission to impose administrative penalties where a public institution or relevant private body fails to comply with an obligation under the Act.” The Commission added.
