The Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, in the company of the Techiman North District Chief Executive, Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, has commissioned a mechanized borehole for residents of Takyikrom, a suburb of the Techiman North District in the Bono East Region.

The project is aimed at providing clean and safe drinking water for the people of Takyikrom and its surrounding communities, who for years have struggled with access to potable water.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said access to clean water remains a critical component of improving public health and enhancing livelihoods. She noted that the mechanized borehole forms part of her broader commitment to addressing the pressing needs of her constituents, particularly in deprived communities.

She explained that reliable access to safe water would help reduce waterborne diseases, ease the burden on women and children who travel long distances in search of water, and improve overall sanitation in the area.

“Water is life, and as a woman, I know and understand the struggles women go through just to get water to keep their homes running. So when the good people of Takyikrom told me they needed clean, safe, and drinkable water, I made it a priority to secure it for them.”

She disclosed that the Takyikrom project forms part of a broader water expansion agenda across the district.

“I plan to construct at least ten (10) mechanized boreholes across the district this year. There are about eight mechanized boreholes that we started constructing last year, which are now complete and will soon be handed over to the communities.”

The Trade Minister further assured constituents that the district remains central to the government’s infrastructure drive under President John Dramani Mahama.

“I want to assure the people of Techiman North that H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s government is a government of infrastructure, and they will not be left out. Aside from these mechanized boreholes, there are many other projects ongoing in the district that will help in the overall development of Techiman North”

She also stressed the importance of proper maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the facility.

“Maintenance culture is very important. I have urged the community to take very good care of the water project so that it can serve the purpose for which it was constructed. I know and trust the people to appoint competent individuals to take charge of the Takyikrom water project for the benefit of the community and its surrounding areas.”

Residents, on their part, expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament and the government for responding to their long-standing appeal for potable water.

“We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and the NDC government for constructing the mechanized borehole for us. Access to clean and drinkable water has been our major challenge for some time, but with the intervention of our able Member of Parliament, this will now be a thing of the past,” a community representative said.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by community leaders, assembly members, party executives, and residents, who described the project as timely and transformative.

The mechanized borehole is expected to significantly reduce the burden on women and children who previously travelled long distances in search of water, while improving sanitation and public health outcomes in Takyikrom and nearby communities.
