A United Kingdom-based Ghanaian businessman has been sentenced to two years in prison storing fish in his bathroom.

Stephen Akuoko, 62, has also been banned from operating any food business for five years.

The court also fined Akuoko £2,500 for  breaching food hygiene regulations.

According to a report, the busineman supplies ready meals to supermarkets and corner shops and it was discovered that he stores the fish in his bathroom both in the bathtub and on the floor next to his toilet.

The discovery was made by firefighters when they went to extinguish a fire at Akuoko’s house in North London.

The matter was reported to the Police and  Akuoko was consequently arrested and taken to court.

Telegraph also reported that the businessman had been operating in Watford, Hertfordshire, under the name Tribal Foods for more than three years.

Adding that Akuoko had been under investigation by the Council environmental health team but was proven unsuccessful until a fire broke out at his flat on Haines Way in October 2024.
